Danielle Steel ünlü Lövenbrau bira yapımcıları soyundan gelmektedir. Annesi Portekizli babası Almandır. Diplomat bir ailenin kızı olan annesinin Portekizli büyük babası ise uzun yılları Amerika'da diplomatik görevlerde bulunmuştur. Amerikada doğan Danielle, çocukluğunun büyük bir kısmını Paris'te geçirdi. Yirmi yaşına geldiği zaman New York'a gitti ve orada Super Girl firmasında çalışmaya başladı. Bu kuruluş Zamanından önce halkla ilişkiler düzenleyen ve kadınlar tarafıdan yönetilen bir iş yeriydi. borsa acentalarına partiler düzenler, büyük firmalar adına P. R programları hazırlardı. Büyük ekonomik buhranda firma iflas etti ve Danille Stell Doing Home Yuvaya Dönüş adlı ilk kitabı yazmak için çalıştığı yerden emekli oldu.
