Dünyaya yıllar önce çarpmış bir uzay aracını bulan çiftlik sahibi bir kadının alkolik sevgilisiyle beraber uzay aracının etrafını kazarak ne olduğunu anlamaya çalışmasını ve sonuçta ufo'nun enerjisiyle kendilerini ve yakındaki kasabayı canavarlara dönüştürmesini konu alıyor.
King'in uyuşturucu ve alkol sorununun son dönemlerinde yazdığı bir kitap olduğu için alkolik sevgili karakterinde kendisiyle hesaplaşmasının yanı sıra kitap biraz uzun. Ama özellikle kasaba halkının "başkalaşması" ve "yeni ve gelişmiş bir kişi olma" sürecini anlatan ikinci kısım, Cem Yılmaz veya Aziz Nesin'in kaleminden çıkabilecek hikayelerden çok çok daha komik ve kimi yerlerde saatlerce kahkaha atıyorsunuz. Bu arada tabi tipik King hikayesindeki gibi kasaba halkının dedikoducu, ikiyüzlü dokusunu ve Amerikan rüyasının kötü taraflarını da görüyorsunuz. Final ise gerçekten etkileyici.
King'in tam anlamıyla ilk bilim-kurgu denemesi ve hem kendini hem de toplumu eleştirmesi açısından etkileyici. Bulursanız alın okuyun, çok fazla kan veya korku öğesi yok.
