2000 yilinda kaybettigimiz, 1923 new york dogumlu puerto rico asilli latin jazz ve mambo üstadi. dünyanin gelmis gecmis en önemli percussionistlerinden biridir. 1942 de amerikan ordusunda donanma askeriyken izin alip Juilliard School of Music de okumaya baslamistir.
1950 lerde cha-cha-cha,mambo, afro-cubana gibi türlerin ABD deki sayili yorumculari arasinda yerini almistir. Afro-cubana ve latin jazz muziklerini birbirine karistirarak bugün "salsa" diye bilinen türü yaratmistir. Adini da kendi koymustur. 1979 yilindan baslayarak A Tribute to Benny Moré, On Broadway, Mambo Diablo ve Goza Mi Timbal albümleriyle 5 kere grammy ödülünü almistir. ilk latin grammy ödülünü alan kisi de yine puente´dir. Puente, asagi yukari adi bilinen tüm latin jazzcilarla birlikte calmis, sayisiz konser performansi yayinlanmistir.
