filmi farklı kılan ise, ustaca hazırlanmış bir kurgu ve psikolojik öğeler barındırması. yani çok kanlı sahneler ya da vahşice işlenmiş cinayetlerle bir korku unsuru yakalama çabasına girilmiyor. karakterin psikanaliz yöntemi irdeleniyor. saçma sapan sahnelerle izleyiciye gerilim yaşatılmıyor. uçuk bir kurgusu ya da senaryosu yok. sıkmıyor, baymıyor. gayet akıcı bir biçimde sonuca doğru ilerliyor. bir de çok sağlam diyaloglar yazılmış. sırf o özelliği için bile izlemeye değer bir film. hitchcock dan daha aşağısı beklenemezdi zaten.
duş perdesi, küvet deliği, sabun ve bıçak üçlemesiyle akıllara kazınan ve tüm zamanların en korkunç filmleri arasında kabul edilen filmdir. ilk gösteriminde salondaki izleyiciler korkup kaçmıştır. seyircilerin çoğunun film siyah beyaz olmasına rağmen kanın renginin kırmızı olduğuna yemin etmesi, hitchcock usta sen ne yaman adamsın dedirtesi bir durumdur.
