David Nicholls'ın bu kadar da olmaz dedirten kitabıdır. Okurken 'ben olsam ben de bunu yapardım' demeden edemiyorsunuz. Bu kadar samimi ve bu kadar yalın bir dille yazılmış olması ise kitabın kahramanlarına duyduğunuz sempatiyi arttırıyor. Kitabın içine koskoca yirmi yılın sığdırılmış olması sanki onlarla büyümüşsünüz gibi hissettiriyor. Ağustos ayında film vizyona girecektir. E, gitmesem olmaz.

Romanda 80 ler ve 90 ların ingilteresi mükemmel bir tasvirle anlatılmış Aşk ve arkadaşlık teması mükemmel işlenmiştir.Çok güzel bir aşk romanıdır.
hayata geç kalmanın ve yılları boşa harcamanın ne demek olduğunu çok iyi anlatan roman. kendilerine dahi itiraf edemeseler de hayatın anlamını birbirlerinde bulan ama aynı zamanda da yıllarca birbirlerinden (belki de kendilerinden) kaçan iki insanın hikayesi. mutlu sonla bitiyor derken şaşırtıyor ve bir damla yaş düşüyor gözlerinizden, ama anlayamıyorsunuz neye ağladığınızı; dexter'a mı, emma'ya mı, yoksa kendi kaybolan yıllarınıza mı?

kitabın ortalarında şöyle bir paragraf geçiyor, çoğu şeyi özetler nitelikte:
filozofik bir biçimde yıl içinde önemli günleri not etti; kendi doğumgününü ve bir şekilde kendisinin de bir parçası olduğu diğer tüm günleri. bir akşam üzeri aynada güzelliğini seyrederken birdenbire fark etti ki, diğerlerinden daha büyük bir öneme sahip bir tarih daha vardı; sahip olduğu tüm cazibenin yok olacağı, kendi ölümünün tarihi; yılın diğer günleri arasında tembelce ve görünmeden yatan. o, her yıl üzerinden geçtiği halde hiçbir işaret ya da ses vermeyen, ama kesinlikle orada olan bir gün. ne zamandı?
