bir cinayetin aydınlatılması üzerine kurulmuş edgar allen poe hikayesi.poe, tanık ifadeleri, merhum tasvirleri ve cinayetin işlendiği mekanı ince ince anlatarak okuyucuyu içine çeker ve katilin kim olduğunu bulmak için çabalamasını sağlar. lakin katil fazla bilinmediğinden olsa gerek pek bir acayiptir zira okuyucuda bir "hadi ordan", "bu muydu", "daha neler" vs... etkisi yaratır finali ile.
edgar allen poe'nun en gerilimli ve bilindik eserlerinden biridir. türkçe'ye morgue sokağı cinayetleri diye geçmekle birlikte; bir çok korku yazarı için pusula görevi görmüştür.
