Appiah's Injury Update: Phase 2 will be in Switzerland
Ghana's inspirational captain Stephen Appiah who has been undergoing intense rehabilitation following his injury will be moving to Lugano in Switzerland to start phase 2 of his rehabilitation.
Stephen has been out of action for almost a year now and has been working hard since the end of CAN 2008 to be fit. He was with the Black Stars during the tournament and soon afterwards he went to Italy to start an intensive programme as part of his efforts to get fit and be back playing.
A week and a half ago Stepapp.com reported that Stephen had been undergoing aerobics and gym work to build his stamina and general body strength.
That was phase one of the rehabilitation and as planned in advance by his medical team he will be moving to the Swiss City of Lugano to start phase two.
Lugano boasts lakes and mountains as well as good quality air which will be very important at this stage of the rehabilitation
The medical team is keen for Stephen to step up his rehabilitation work and see Lugano as a very good base to do that. The terrain and atmosphere will be fully utilised and should help the healing process a great deal.
''Stephen will be in Lugano for over 4 weeks and the training will involve 3 or 4 days a week intensive work followed by warm downs each time'' said a member of the team travelling with him.
''If all goes well he will undergo further tests at the end of the Lugano trip to assess his overall condition and the doctors will be in a position to start talking about come back dates. Lets hope everything goes according plan'' he concluded
We questioned Stephen about the trip and he added ''its certainly not going to be a holiday in Lugano. I am going to carry on working hard and at the end of it all we will see what the outcome will be''
