"As the virginity of upper class daughters became a financial asset, commercial prostitution became economically necessary. The need arose to distinguish between respectable and nonrespectable women. This matter was legislated under the Middle Assyrian Law, which dictated the veiling of the wives, widows, and daughters of free men, and concubines when accompanying their masters or mistresses. Unmarried prostitutes (sacred as well as commercial), unaccompanied concubines, and slaves were denied the veil."
Buradan okuduğumuza göre sümer yasalarında kimlerin türban takma gibi "kapanma" faaliyetlerinde bulunabilecekler arasında "başörtülü fahişe" kapsamına alınacak bir tanımın tam tersi yer almaktadır.
